An employee was closing the tailgate/loading ramp of a 16-foot utility trailer and lining up the locking pin and hole when a bystander came over to help. As the bystander pulled the gate closed, the employee's left middle fingertip was caught in the tailgate, resulting in a fracture and broken skin. The finger was medically amputated at the knuckle.
