Employees were using the boom of a digger truck to pull a power pole out of the ground. The extended boom broke away from the turret it was mounted on and dropped, causing the operator's seat to abruptly go up. The injured employee was thrown from the seat and landed on the ground. The employee was hospitalized with a fractured T8 vertebra and required surgery.
