An employee was performing maintenance work on an expansion joint downstream of a heat exchanger. A release of hot water occurred from a bleed on the downstream piping of the heat exchanger. The employee was exposed to the hot water on their torso and legs, resulting in burns to the lower torso and thighs that required hospitalization.
