Before the incident
Manually moving waste wheeler by hand to the truck from customer property to dump.
What happened
Employee was on [REDACTED] servicing 95 gallon waste wheelers at a customer site when he went to manually grab a waste wheeler by hand to walk it to the Rear load truck to dump. The driver claimed that as he grabbed the handle and went to maneuver it to turn around and proceed to the truck he felt a pop and sharp pain in his lower back mainly on his right side. Driver reported that he could not remain on his route and requested to be pulled from truck to go seek medical attention. A supervisor and another rear load driver reported to the location of the injured employee to switch out drivers so the route could continue to be picked up the supervisor then transported the injured employee to Concentra in [REDACTED] to be evaluated. It was determined by medical the employee sustained a pulled muscle in his lower back and would have to placed on light duty with no driving abilities until his next follow up appointment to be re-evaluated.

Root cause was the employee performing a quick and rapid twisting movement with a heavy waste wheeler and placed the lower back in a compromised position without properly setting his feet and making even fluid motions.
