While inserting a core shaft into a new roll the team member encountered resistance due to internal core damage or deterioration To overcome this he applied additional force to push the shaft into the core During this process he noticed a forklift operating nearby and looked up to confirm he was not in its path As he continued pushing while distracted his right thumb became positioned in the line of fire between the core and the shaft collar The additional force caused his thumb to be pinched between the core shaft and the collar resulting in a fracture and laceration
