I was transferring urine for a urinalysis from the larger blue topped urine collection container to a sample test tube inside a patient 's room 43A. The patient did not see the incident. I realized I punctured myself and immediately left the room and noticed blood had spurted on my remote workstation and was dripping down my right arm. I promptly went to the staff sink to wash my hand with warm soapy water and was assisted by [REDACTED] who retrieved gauze bandaid and bleach wipes to clean my remote workstation.

I was applying pressure on top of removing a lab collection tube that was punctured with a needle on a blue topped urine specimen collection cup. The sample tube slipped when I was removing it and my right pointer finger slid down the specimen tube and pressed onto the exposed urine transfer needle.
