Cleaning area with compressed air

During a training session an employee was working alongside their trainer. The trainer was adjusting the side fences that hold the wood in place as it passes through the molder. While the machine was running the trainee was using compressed air to clean the area and noticed a large sliver of wood that had broken off from the material being processed. In an attempt to remove the sliver to prevent a potential jam the employee reached for it. Due to the machine remaining in operation the rollers activated which processed material through the machine catching the employee’s glove and pulled their hand toward the cutting head. This contact resulted in deep lacerations and a partial amputation of the right middle finger.
