Installing plate with hammer

The injured employee attempted to install a plate into a square tubing section using a small sledgehammer. During the task the I.E. mis-struck and contacted the plate with their right index finger resulting in injury. The I.E. did not report the incident until the following shift at which time swelling of the affected finger was observed. First aid was applied at the time of report (ice pack to reduce swelling.
