Suturing patient 's eye

Dr was suturing the patient 's eye and he stuck himself in his right thumb. The needle was then removed from the sterile field and had no subsequent contact with the patient. The circulating RN washed Dr. 's thumb in 10% povidone iodine and the charge nurse was notified. Dr. notified the patient 's family and received consent to draw the labs required by Occupational Health. Labs were drawn and sent to HH Lab. Charge nurse notified Risk Management of the incident.
