Working the the surgical area but not scrubbed in for the surgery itself.

During a surgical procedure a surgeon dropped a suture needle and the needle landed on the floor. This made the needle unsterile. The employee was not scrubbed in and was therefore not considered apart of the sterile field allowing her to pick the suture needle up off the floor and place the needle into the sharps container. When she picked up the suture needle she noted that she had been stuck by the needle on the right middle finger of her right hand on the tip of the finger.

Needle stick to finger.
