What happened

At approximately [REDACTED] on [REDACTED] I was escorting a patient and his mother from PACU to their vehicle. The patient a [REDACTED] boy was seated in a black wheelchair with hand breaks on the wheels. I wheeled the patient out of the outpatient entrance exit to meet his mother 's vehicle. I engaged the right wheel brake with my right hand and felt a strong sharp pain in my lower back that radiated to bilateral hips and bilateral thighs. Patient was successfully helped into the vehicle by his mother. I slowly and painfully wheeled the chair back up to PACU and sat down at the PACU charge RN desk. One of the PACU RNs called Employee Health however the office was closed at the time. She then called the House Supervisor to alert her of the injury. I was recommended to go to an emergency room. I drove myself to Methodist Cypress ER where I was treated for back sprain or strain.
