Before the incident
The employee was cutting a double wall corrugated sheet sample with an approved Martor squeeze handle self retracting safety knife when the injury occurred He was in a standing position holding the sample with his right hand at a 45 degree angle with the bottom of the sample resting on a table at waist height in front of him His left hand was holding the Martor knife He was making a downward cut from right to left when due to resistance he increased the force needed to make the cut The added force when the cut was complete caused the knife to continue to travel past the bottom edge of the sheet and struct the left leg of the employee Due to the edge of the sheet being in close proximity to the employee the knife did not have time to self retract which caused a laceration to the upper thigh of the employees left leg
