The employee has just finished pouring a heat of copper from an induction furnace to make copper metal powder. The molten metal is poured through a small tundish box. After the heat is poured the tundish is removed and the contents needs to be cleaned out in preparation for the next heat.

The tundish sits in a trunion (rocker arm) on the cleaning table. As the employee pushed the tundish forward (with the assistance of a crane) the tundish bounced back. When the tundish bounced back the employee quickly caught it (steadied it) with his left hand. At this time the employee felt pain in his left shoulder.

Torn left labrum in left shoulder.

The tundish rocking back while sitting in the trunion (rocker arm) and the employee grabbing it to steady it caused the accident to occur.

Torn left labrum (in shoulder). After dumping the contents from a tundish in a dumping station the tundish bounced back. Employee used hand to try and catch tundish and felt pain in shoulder at this time.
