A truck mechanic was drilling a hole when the drill bit caught and spun the drill around and struck his face. Associate ...

[REDACTED] was injured when a drill bit caught while he was drilling. The drill twisted suddenly and rotated causing the battery end to hit his safety glasses. The glasses cut his right cheek under his eye. He was working in a tight area and positioned close to the drill to control it. When the bit bound up the drill spun and twisted his arm leading to the impact. [REDACTED] went to the OC Med Center received four stitches and returned to full duty. A review determined that the sudden twist of the drill was the main cause. Drills with antikickback protection were ordered for testing. Additional actions include adding second handles to drills and improving body positioning to keep the face out of the line of fire.
