I was finishing up a blood draw when I went to retract the needle and it didn 't go down and at the same time was reaching for a band aid to cover the gauze I had on his needle site. As I was reaching for the band aide I ended up catching the base of my right index finger on the dirty needle tip. I got the band aide on the pt moved all of our stuff to the counter top in the room to finish everything when I notified the others in the room with me that I believe I just stabbed myself with the needle when I immediately handed off my supplies and responsibilities of the blood draw and collection to the lab tech checking in that day and the nurse who was in the room also. They took over so I could report it to the charge nurse. and get my hands washed immediately then I was checked in and taken care of.
