Before the incident
After placenta delivery in the OR this RN was instructed to obtain blood gases from cord segment per pediatrician. While teaching an orientee I was holding the cord and pointing to the artery for the orientee to then draw blood from. After no return this RN then went to find a better spot for the orientee to draw up and with my movement of the cord my left ring finger was pierced.
