Registered Nurse (RN) called the Nursing Assistant ([REDACTED]) to room 204 to assist with helping the patient back to bed from the wheelchair. The patient was unable to stand independently and required maximum assistance for mobility. The RN and [REDACTED] utilized the [REDACTED] for the transfer. While the patient was standing with support on the [REDACTED] the patient’s leg buckled. The [REDACTED] attempted to lift and stabilize the patient to prevent a fall. During this sudden movement the [REDACTED] reported experiencing a sharp burning pain in the right upper back. It is believed that the injury occurred when she twisted her back too quickly while trying to catch and support the patient to prevent a fall. Contributing factors included the patient’s limited ability to bear weight the unexpected buckling of the patient’s leg and the rapid movement required to stabilize the patient. The [REDACTED] noted no prior symptoms before the incident.
