After setting the pipe down in the die the press operator came down on the press. When he did this the sling loosened on the pipe and swung off the end. While the helper was attempting to put the sling back on the pipe the operator released the die and the pipe dropped down onto the sling. The helper 's finger was pinched between the nylon sling and the pipe.
