Machine operator was operating a manual lathe while operating the lathe a metal stringer had began to wrap around the part that he operator was working. The operator then reached in and used a long pair (about 12 long) needle nose pliers to remove the metal stringer from the part that was in the lathe. As the operator was removing the metal stringer from the part the stringer began to wrap around the right hand and the operator pulled his hand away causing a laceration from the metal stringer to the middle finger and thumb of the right hand. The operator immediately hit the brake to stop the lathe and reported the incident to his supervisor. First aid was given to the employee on plant site.

The Employee was then taken to the medical facility and was treated with cleaning of the wound and stitches to the right hand middle finger and thumb. The middle finger required stitches.

Metal chip debris.

Laceration to the R H middle finger from metal stringer shaving from the lathing process .Stitches were needed for the cut.
