He was using a torque tool with a norbar to tighten a bolt on the underside of an axle on a stand.

The tool slipped off the bolt and the norbar swung around striking the TM 's right thumb and crushing it against either part of the stand

Their thumb was broken and required surgery. During surgery they medically amputated the tip of his thumb.
