Hammering Material

On [REDACTED] at [REDACTED] IE was working on the East side of [REDACTED] attempting to loosen a column that got stuck in place. While doing so IE was utilizing an 8lbs sledgehammer to get the column in the correct orientation. As IE as swinging the sledgehammer with both hands they lost grip from their left hand resulting in their hand being wedged in between the upper sledgehammer handle and the edge of the column. IE felt a sharp pain and reported to their supervisor what just transpired. Immediately after initial notification supervisor contacted Cooper Steel safety. IE was then taken to get observed by Gray safety team. After being observed by Gray safety IE was then transported to an urgent care clinic by Cooper Steel safety for medical treatment. IE was given X-rays which showed there as a closed nondisplaced fracture of middle phalanx of left little finger. Nurse practitioner placed a splint on IE left little finger and recommended to follow up with an orthopedic.
