Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the ignition of flammable vapors which could result in serious injury or death during the burning of flammable rags: a) Powerhouse: The employer did not take precautions against the ignition of flammable vapors from hazardous waste drums containing flammable liquids, exposing employees to fire and explosion hazards. Among other methods, acceptable abatement would be to have a hazardous waste disposal vendor remove the drums from the site.
