Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or
serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
potential fire and/or explosion hazards when grinding aluminum and steel
stock on a common belt sander.  Also, employees were not provided with
non-
sparking tools when cleaning up aluminum dust that was created by the
grinding process:
Grinding Department:  Employees working in the grinding area were
using a belt sander to grind both steel and aluminum stock.  Also,
non-sparking tools were not utilized when they cleaned the floors.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct
the hazards is to provide a second belt sander that is to be utilized
exclusively to grind steel or aluminum stock.  Also provide non-sparking
tools to be utilized for the clean-up of aluminum dust that collects on
the
floor.
