Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing type hazards: (a) 1397 Sugar Run Road, Venetia, Pa 15367; On October 14, 1997, employee(s) were exposed to being struck by wooden trusses, measuring 28 feet long with a one foot overhang, while being unloaded from a flatbed truck. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to support the trusses at 25 ft. intervals; load banded trusses on the bed of the trailer in order to fill out the complete width of the bed; implement loading and unloading handling procedures; and follow pamphlet HIB-91, Truss Plate Institute, Handling, Installing, & Bracing procedures. Abatement Documentation Is Required For This Item
