Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Acrylic Shower Chopping: Employees spraying dual component fabrication material containing the organic peroxide methyl ketone peroxide were exposed to a potential fire hazard due to the exothermic reaction of the material used on or about 7-20-92. (b) Acrylic Tub Chopping: Employees spraying dual component fabrication material containing the organic peroxide methyl ethyl ketone peroxide were exposed to apotential fire hazard due to the exothermic reaction of the material used on or about 7-20-92. (c) Gel Coat Chopping: Employees spraying dual component fabrication material containing the organic peroxide methyl ethyl ketone peroxide were exposed to potential fire hazard due to the exothermic reaction of the material used on or about 7-20-92. (d) Barrier Coat Application: Employees spraying component fabrication material containing the organic peroxide methyl ethyl ketone peroxide were exposed to a potential fire hazard due to the exothermic reaction of the material used on or about 7-20-92. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to place all dual component spray operations inside sprinklered spray booths meeting the requirements of 1910.107(b).
