Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On March 12, 1986, employees were exposed to hazard of being struck by falling trusses at building No. 8 at about 4800 N Dixie Highway, Boca Raton, Florida 33432. Continuous lateral bracing across the top and bottom chords was not installed. The special engineers instructions on the blue prints were not carried out for bracing piggyback trusses. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable abatement method would be a) Ensure the continuous lateral bracing is installed through top and bottom chords. b) Follow the special engineering notes and instructions on the blueprints. c) Use the BWT-76, commentary and recommendations for truss erection by the Truss Plate Institute, and ensure that it is in possession of the erectors on site.
