Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees where they are to the hazards of tripping and falling, in that employees crossing over conveyors must step into the moving belt of a belt conveyor while it is running. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to provide a crossover walkway over the conveyor so that employees can safely cross the conveyor without stepping into the conveyor belt. The crossover and walkway shall be equipped with handrails and guardrails on stairway and ramp if four or more risers and the ramp is more than four feet above ground or hazardous equipment. (a) Employees were exposed to fall and trip hazards while stepping onto the belt of a running conveyor.
