Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of falling from unsecured steel and/ or being
struck by unsecured
steel:
a)Building 14, On or about 10/6/99:  Not all of the bridging between open
webbed steel joists had been secured.  Employees exposed to a fall hazard.
ABATEMENT NOTES:
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO:
1.ENSURE THAT ALL BRIDGING IS SECURED PRIOR TO PLACING ANY LOAD
ON IT.
2.FOLLOW THE REQUIREMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS SET FORTH BY
THE STEEL JOIST INSTITUTES DIGEST "HANDLING AND ERECTION OF
STEEL JOISTS AND GIRDERS".
