Section 5 (a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of amputations: (A)Idaho Potato Packer (IPP) Receiving Area: On 9 April 2002, an employee working in the vicinity of the main tub incline conveyor near an unguarded nip point was exposed to an amputation hazard. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD, AMONG OTHERS, TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: Erect a barrier around the area or guard the nip point of the conveyor and install warning signs. NOTE: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required for this item.
