General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards by the use of hydraulic lifts that did not have a load holding device. The forklift jack did not have a load holding device in the event of hydraulic failure. Among feasible and acceptable abatement is to comply with the Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing and Validation of Automotive Lifts, ANSI/ALI ALCTV -1998 and provide a load holding device that incorporates a mechanical device to prevent downward movement of more than six inches after stopping motion. Function shall begin within 24 inches of rise and continue to the full rise position. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
