Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of exposure to hazardous substances: a)Florida CirTech, Inc., Greeley, CO: On or about 1/9/04 and at times prior thereto, employees were exposed to physical and chemical hazards due to unsafe storage of incompatible chemicals within the same containment area. Storage of incompatible chemicals can result in the release of toxic gases, generation of heat, generation of flammable gas, fire and/or explosion. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter"). AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD IS: 1.Install separate containment systems around each tank or around groups of tanks which contain compatible chemicals. 2.Move tanks of chemicals into additional storage areas and ensure that only compatible chemicals are stored in the same storage areas. 3.Seek out expert assistance when designing your chemical storage areas.
