Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to hazards of entanglement while attaching plastic product sheeting to a rotating core: (a)General Plastic Extrusions, Inc. at 1238 Kasson Dr. in Prescott, WI: Packer employees were exposed to entanglement hazards when manually attaching the plastic product sheeting to the rotating cores on the various winder machines located throughout the main production area. The employees' arms were exposed to the web generated entanglement hazard created between the web and the core. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow American National Standard, ANSI/SPI B151.5-2000, for Plastic Film and Sheet Winding Machinery - Manufacture, Care and Use, Section 6.4 attaching web to a rotating core as applicable. Abatement certification and documentation required for this item.
