Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Two narrow width coils, measuring 10 inches wide by 60 inches high, and 11 1/2 inches wide by 62 1/2 inches high, were not secured to prevent them from being knocked over by forklift trucks, or other means. Among other methods, the following are feasible and acceptable methods to minimize the storage hazard of narrow width coils: 1. Develop written safe securement procedures for metal coils that can be tipped over when placed with the "eye to the side." The procedures shall include the use of coil cradles. 2. Train all affected employees; e.g., material handlers, on the requirements set forth in the procedures and related safety precautions. 3. Enforce the use of the procedures..
