Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees working in the foundry were exposed to potential splashes of molten metal and struck by hazards do to the inadvertent overloading of transfer ladles, charge buckets, and the muller spreader bar due to the lack of capacity markings on these lifting devices: a.Kenton Iron Products, Inc. located in Kenton, Ohio: On or about December 12, 2005, the employer did not ensure the 500 pound white iron transfer ladle located in the melting department was labeled as to the lifting capacity of the ladle. b.Kenton Iron Products, Inc. located in Kenton, Ohio: On or about December 12, 2005, the employer did not ensure the 700 pound grey and ductile iron transfer ladle located in the melting department was labeled as to the lifting capacity of the ladle. c.Kenton Iron Products, Inc. located in Kenton, Ohio: On or about December 12, 2005, the employer did not ensure the charge buckets located in the melting department used to carry scrap iron, pig iron, and punchings were labeled as to the lifting capacity of the charge buckets. d.Kenton Iron Products, Inc. located in Kenton, Ohio: On or about December 12, 2005, the employer did not ensure the muller spreader bar used to lift poured molds near the sand muller was labeled as to the lifting capacity of the spreader bar. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure the under the hook lifting devices are labeled according to ANSI B30.20. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that foundry employees working with the jacket crane and the #3 and #4 crane were exposed to the potential hazard of being struck by materials carried by the cranes if the materials were to be disengaged from the crane hooks due to missing safety latches: a.Kenton Iron Products, Inc. located in Kenton, Ohio: On or about December 12, 2005, the employer did not ensure the hook for the jacket crane located in the foundry area was equipped with a safety latch. b.Kenton Iron Products, Inc. located in Kenton, Ohio: On or about December 12, 2005, the employer did not ensure the hook for the #3 & #4 crane located in the foundry area was equipped with a safety latch. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to comply with the requirements of ANSI B30.10 "Safety Standard for Cableways, Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Hooks, Jacks, and Slings". No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
