Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to:
(a) Jay-Brant General Contractors, LLC (USCG Hangar 1 Clerestory project):
On or about June
18, 2010, employees were exposed to fall hazards from the JLG
Self-propelled Elevated work
platform they were using to access the roof area of Hangar 1 due to the
wheels of the staged unit
not chocked to retain their position and from a damaged ladder rung and
support which
employees used to gain access to the basket of the vehicle.
One feasible means of abatement might be to mandate a policy and practice
for chocking or
stabilizing all wheeled vehicles used by employees and repairing all
damaged equipment on a
regular basis.
