Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that: a) Kenton Iron Products, Inc. - Kenton, Ohio: On or about August 10, 2006 the employer failed to ensure that automotive jack stands used to support a company truck during the repair of the motor mount, were tested and marked in accordance with national consensus standards. The jack stands were shop-made, and had not been proof-tested or marked to indicate the rated load of the stands. Abatement Note: One feasible method to abate this hazard is to comply with the ASME Standard for Portable Automotive Lifting Devices - 1993, Section 1.1, and Part 4, Section 4.1, which require that portable automotive jack stands pass proof tests and be marked with their rated load capacity. No additional abatement information is required for this item.
