Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to inhalation hazards associate with ammonia refrigerant: On or about December 9, 2006, employees working in the facility were not provided protection against release of anhydrous ammonia in the machinery room due to failure to have detectors located in an area where ammonia refrigerant from leaks would concentrate to actuate alarms. Employees were exposed to inhalation hazards associated with anhydrous ammonia. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Adherence to the safe design, installation, and operation of ammonia refrigeration system prescribed by ANSI/ASHRAE 15 - 2004, section 8.11.2.1. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(2) abatement of the above violation was verified at the time of inspection, no certification is required.tion
