Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation hazard: a) Bread Line Area: Employer did not ensure machine operators were trained on safe operating procedure for machinery. Violation observed on or about 5/11/2007. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to provide training to bread line machine operators. This training shall include a review of operating instructions outlined in the Operator's Manual for bread line machinery and ANSI Z50.1-1988, Baking Equipment - Safety Requirements. 2) Inspect and maintain the bread line equipment on a regular basis and perform all maintenance as required according to manufacturer's specifications. 3) Develop detailed written cleaning procedures for sanitation workers required to clean machinery on the Pullman Bread Line and provide training on the procedure.
