Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to a fire hazard due to the spark detection equipment being inoperable on the duct work leading from the CA#2 panel saw. a.Ameriwood Industries, Inc. located in Tiffin, Ohio: On or about April 29, 2008, the employer did not ensure the spark detection equipment located on the duct work for the CA#2 panel saw, in the cut-to-size department, was functioning properly. The spark detection sensors were not installed in the duct work and were wrapped in plastic. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure the ventilation system is equipped with a spark detection and suppression system according to NFPA 664 Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities 2007. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.t,
