employee
was observed "riding" the bucket of the Caterpillar 345 hydraulic
excavator to be
lowered into the excavation approximately 22.00' deep exposing the
employee to fall
hazards from inadvertant operation and movement.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard would be to follow 29 CFR 1926.651 (c) and/or recommendations
outlined in the
Construction Industry Manufacturers Association Safety Manual for
Hydraulic Excavators
and the Equipment Manufacturers Institute Safety Manual for Hydraulic
Excavators.
