Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while operating under hung crane, with an unmarked pendant control: (a)Paint Spray Area: On February 12, 2009 and times prior to, employees operated a Dayton 1/2 ton under hung crane (serial # GJLB-584-UP). The pendant controller was not marked to indicate the direction of resultant motion when the buttons were depressed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow accepted safe practices such as but not limited to; (a) install a new pendant with visible markings onto the control, (b) follow the guidelines set forth in ANSI/ASME B30.11, Monorail and Underhung Cranes.
