Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to amputation injuries: (a) On or about August 11, 2009, and at times prior, employees were exposed to amputation injury while using a Black and Decker portable cordless broom that was intended for household use as indicated by the manufacturers safety warning sticker attached to the portable tool. Serious injury could result to employees in that the plastic guard which covers the fan is easily breakable in an industrial setting. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter"). AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO UTILIZE A BLOWER SUITABLE FOR INDUSTRIAL USE
