Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of falls: (a)On or about 07/12/10 - 50 Medical Park East, Birmingham, AL, employees cleaning exterior windows utilizing a Rope Descent System (RDS) were not protected from falls in that they did not wear and safely secure their personal fall arrest equipment prior to approaching the point of suspension. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow the guidelines of the American National Standards Institute/International Window Cleaning Association, ANSI/IWCA I-14.1-2001, Section 3.8 Fall Protection.
