Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by falling objects hazard: a) Mold Area: The Hook of a 1 ton electric hoist was not equipped with a safety latch, on or about 04/27/2011. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to equip hoist hooks with safety laches in ANSI B30. 16-2007 Section 16-1.2.9 (Hooks). A latch shall be provided to bridge the throat opening of the hook and retain, under slack conditions, such items as, but not limited to , slings and chains.
