29 CFR 1926.652(g)(2): Excavations of earth material to a level greater than 2 feet (.61m) below the bottom of a shield was permitted: a) East end of excavation; On or about 4/28/11 and at times prior thereto, an employee was working to spread/compact backfill over a section of PVC sewer pipe in an excavation that was approximately 20 feet deep. The trench shield that the employee was working in was installed approximately 4 feet above the bottom of the excavation. Note: Abatement certification IS required for this item.
