OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that , employees were exposed to explosion and/or fire hazards while working near a natural gas line which had a gas leak. The natural gas pipe, valves, and hanger supports were not coated to keep them from corroding.     a) On or about July 20, 2011, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from explosion and/or fire hazards while working near a corroded natural gas line. The natural gas pipes, valves, and hanger supports were routed/located in an area where it was wet and humid, and they were not coated to prevent the metals from corrosion.      Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazardous condition is to ensure that the natural gas lines are coated according to ANZI Z21.30, 2.6.3 Pipe Coating, 2.9.2 Protection Against Corrosion, 2.10.3 Piping Supports.

The opening was 14 inches by 6 inches, 8 inches deep.

29 CFR 1910.305(e)(1): Cabinets, cutout boxes, fittings, boxes, and panelboard enclosures in damp or wet locations were not installed to prevent moisture or water from entering and accumulating within the enclosures:    a) On or about July 25, 2011, the employe did not ensure that employees were protected from electrical hazards while working with and near the electrical boxes (switches, breakers, cabinets etc.) in the basement where the conditions are wet and damp. The metal boxes are rusted, doors warped and do not close properly.
