29 CFR 1910.23(e)(1): Standard railing(s) did not consist of top rail, intermediate rail and/or posts and/or did not have a vertical height of 42 inches (106.7 cm) nominal from upper surface of top rail to floor, platform runway, or ramp level:  a.  Bldg. 977,  exit near bay closest to wood shop  -  Noted on or about 1/20/12, the top railings of a stairway were not constructed to extend the full length of the stairs.

Bldg. 977, Bay 1 - Noted on or about 1/20/12, the designated exit next to Bay 1 had a broken self-closing mechanism and the exit door could not easily be closed shut.

29 CFR 1910.146(c)(5)(ii)(B): When an entrance cover was removed, the opening was not promptly guarded by a railing, temporary cover, or other temporary barrier that would prevent an accidental fall through the opening and that would protect each employee  a.  Bldg. 977, Bay 15 - Noted on or about 1/20/12, a permit required confined space pallet pit (12-13 ft. deep) was not secured as required and left open with a ladder sticking out.  This condition has existed since 12/19/11 when an entry was made in order to repair a scale.

29 CFR 1910.242(b): Compressed air used for cleaning purposes was not reduced to less than 30 p.s.i.:  (a) Wood Shop, Bldg. 977 - Noted on or about 1/23/12, an employee used an air hose to remove wood dust from their clothing.  According to the employer the pressure in the air line is 125 psi; a pressure reducing nozzle attached to the end of the line reduces this pressure.  Compressed air, regardless of the pressure in the line, should never be used for cleaning work clothes.
