29 CFR 1910.213(c)(2): Handfed circular ripsaw(s) were not furnished with a spreader to prevent material from squeezing the saw or being thrown back on the operator: (a)Tharp Cabinet Corporation at 1246 Denver Ave., Loveland, CO 80537: A Powermatic tablesaw in the Specials area was not equipped with a spreader. This condition exposed the employees to a kickback hazard. Abatement Note: To properly guard the saw: (a)The spreader shall: (1)The spreader shall be made of hard tempered steel, or its equivalent, and shall be thinner than the saw kerf. (2)The spreader shall be of sufficient width to provide adequate stiffness or rigidity to resist any reasonable side thrust or blow tending to bend or throw it out of position. (3)The spreader shall be attached so that it will remain in true alignment with the saw even when either the saw or table is tilted.

29 CFR 1910.213(f)(2): Handfed circular ripsaw(s) were not furnished with a sectional non-kickback fingers to prevent material being thrown back on the operator: (a)Tharp Cabinet Corporation at 1246 Denver Ave., Loveland, CO 80537: A Powermatic tablesaw in the Specials area was not equipped with a non-kickback device. This condition exposed the employees to a kickback hazard. Abatement Note: To properly guard the saw each self-feed circular ripsaw shall be provided with sectional non-kickback fingers for the full width of the feed rolls. They shall be located in front of the saw and so arranged as to be in continual contact with the wood being fed.

29 CFR 1910.213(h)(3): An adjustable stop was not provided to prevent the forward travel of the blade beyond the position necessary to complete the cut in repetitive operations: (a)Tharp Cabinet Corporation at 1246 Denver Ave., Loveland, CO 80537: The radial arm saws in the assembly and drawer areas known as "slider saws" traveled beyond the length necessary to complete the cut. This condition exposed the employee to an amputation hazard. Abatement Note: A stop device to prevent any portion of the blade from extending past the cutting surface meets the requirements of this standard.

This condition potentially exposed the employees and outside contractors to an uncontrolled energy source hazard. Abatement Note: Appendix A 1910.147 services as a non-mandatory guideline to assist employers and employees in complying with the requirements of this section, as well as to provide other helpful information. Nothing in the appendix adds to or detracts from any of the requirements of this section.
