29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652(c). The employer had not complied with the provisions of 29 CFR 1926.652(b)(1)(i) in that: (a) Intersection of E Main and Washington Streets - A employee performed a water main splice while working in a 6 foot deep trench that was sloped at 40 degrees on one side, was not sloped on the other side and no other protective system was in place. The lack of correct sloping and the lack of protective systems exposed the employee to a possible cave-in hazard, as observed on or about 8-28-12. Abatement Certification Required
