OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):     The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an amputation hazard:    Inside of the Die Build-Up Department, the following machines were not equipped with emergency stops:    a/  Bridgeport Milling Machine, Series 1.  b/  Pratt & Whitney Precision Jig Borer, s/n 27181.    One method of abatement to correct this apparent hazard is to install emergency stops as required by ANSI B11.8-2001, paragraph 6.12.3.    DISCLAIMER:    a/  The employer is not limited to the abatement method(s) suggested by OSHA.  b/  The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method.

The exposed portion of the abrasive surface measured approximately 12 inches in diameter.

The flight of stairs consisted of nine risers.

The flexible cord provided power to a fluorescent light.    b/  Inside of the Die Cast Machine #1, a black, flexible cord was wrapped around a support column and laid across a overhead, metal walking surface.  The flexible cord provided power to a fluorescent light.
